Hillskills Weekend

A two day introduction to summer hillwalking. Covering: Navigation, route planning, mountain weather, what to carry, what to wear and more.

Whilst we will focus on navigation (not getting lost is step one in having a good day out!) the weekend will cover all sorts of topics, from Leave No Trace, to how mountains affect the weather and what to do in an emergency.

Day one will usually be held in lowland terrain (Mugdock Country Park, or the Kilpatrick Hills are personal favourites, but we are flexible and locations can be tailored to suite groups). We will use a stepped approach to introduce different types of maps, basic map and compass skills and a variety of different navigation techniques.

Day two will take us into the mountains. The group will each take a turn leading as we navigate our way through the mountains, usually aiming to summit a peak.

Along the way we will discuss all the other elements of a fun, safe and environmentally friendly day in the hills.

Maps, map cases and compasses will be provided, but you will need to come ready for a day in the hills. A kit list will be sent out to you on booking, along with a special FKTrails discount code to use at Nevisport in case there's anything you don't have.

You don't have to be superhero to attend, whilst a reasonable level of hill fitness makes life easier, the aim of the weekend is learning, not storming up and down mountains (if that's what you want to do check out some of the FKTrails guided hikes!).

Please note: this event requires at least three people to run, if we do not receive enough bookings you will be offered the choice of changing dates or a full refund.

Group bookings (4+ people) are also available at a discounted rate, please go to www.fredkeatetrails.com and use the Contact page to send an enquiry.

If you have any questions at all please, or want to see anything else we offer, please either head to www.fredkeatetrails.com or send us a message
